Does your chicken taste the same, regardless of whether it's baked, broiled, or boiled? Does your salad dressing consist of canola oil and apple cider vinegar? Spice things up a bit with these fabulous essential oil recipes!
Vinegar and Oil Salad Dressing
Add 3 drops of lemon, lime, or orange essential oil to 2 tbsp. of olive oil and 2 tsp. of red wine or balsamic vinegar, add salt and pepper to taste, and shake well. If you are making a Greek salad, use basil and oregano essential oils instead of citrus.
Fragrant Breads and Pastries
Add 4 to 5 drops of essential oil per pound of dough. Mix and match lemon, orange, rose, almond, basil, cinnamon and nutmeg to your taste. You can also add herbs to your dough to give it a more original texture and scent.
Steamed Veggies
Place 1 to 2 drops of nutmeg, lemon, orange, lavender, oregano, thyme, or basil in steaming water and combine chopped carrots, celery, onions, red and green peppers, brussel sprouts, and broccoli for a surprisingly flavorful side dish!
Honey Lemon Chicken marinade
Combine 4 tbsp. honey, 2 tbsp. mustard, 1 tbsp. orange marmalade, and 2 drops of lemon essential oil. Mix well and brush onto chicken as it cooks.
Spicy Braised Beef
Combine 1 tsp. garlic oil, 1 drop of orange, 1 drop allspice, and 1 drop cinnamon essential oil and let the mixture set for 30 minutes. With a sharp knife, slice narrow slits ? inch deep into beef cutlet (no more than ? pound) and poke halved garlic cloves into slits. Rub salt and pepper into meat to your taste, and begin braising. Brush oil mixture onto meat and continue braising until done.
Herbed Lemon Fish Marinade
This marinade is easy to make, but requires the fish to soak for at least three hours: plan accordingly! It's worth the wait. Mix 3 drops of fennel, 3 drops of lemon essential oil, and 3 tbsp. of olive oil. Brush on cleaned, skinned fish and set aside. Combine 1 cup white wine, 2 drops garlic essential oil, 1 small diced onion, 2 sprigs of dill, and salt and pepper to taste. Soak oiled fish in marinade for 3 hours, then bake or broil until done.
Rose Sugar
Add 2-3 drops of Turkish Rose Otto to 1 ? cups of sugar. Blend well with a fork and sift. Tastes wonderful in tea. To make vanilla sugar, chop up a vanilla bean and place it in a bag or jar of sugar for up to 2 months (make sure you remove the beans before using the sugar).
Citrus Creme Frosting
This frosting perks up carrot cake, spice cake, yellow or white cakes. Mix 1 cup butter, 1 tsp. vanilla, 4 ? cups powdered sugar, 5 drops of orange, lemon, or lime essential oil, and add 1/4 to 1/3 cup milk with a blender until frosting reaches desired consistency.
